Last August I participated in IM 70.3 Itaipu, a race that starts in Paraguay (swim and bike) and ends in Brazil (bike and run), all of the course is within the grounds of the largest hydro-electric generator in the world. The venue is astonishing and the race is really challenging.
SWIM – tranquil lake, start in the water. despite being a lake, there were quite a bit a waves specially in the farthest and deeper part of the course, probably because of the strong wind. My target was 41 minutes, I clocked 39 minutes.
BIKE – very technical course. a lot of climbs, the wind on the top of the dam was strong, a lot of sharp turns, and intense heat. hardly any shade. target was 3h, i finished in 2h58min, but total distance reached 96km (instead of 90km). link to Strava activity
RUN – very intense heat and more climbs made it very challenging my pace varied from 4″40min\km on the flat\descent and as low as 6″10min\km on the climbs. my target was 2h I finished at 1h53min. link to Strava acitiviy
Result: Overall 5h38min. 73º\244 in 35-39 age group.
In 2016, the race will take place on August 27th. I might be there again 🙂 <link to Ironman site>
